This is a world that I actualy bothered to put thought into! I hope you at least read the important parts before you go off making a character. Otherwise, you'll be lost.
Races:
**please note, people are usualy given Japanese names, or at least exotic ones (occasional Hindi or native is accepted)
Human:
Gee, pretty self-explanatory. Humans in this universe look like humans from most universes. Their hair tends to come in pretty basic colors, meaning blue hair is dyed blue, that’s not a natural color unless you’re a freak, and yes, people WILL notice if you are one. Eyes are another story- it is normal to have unusually colored eyes if you have powers, but you’ll still be singled out as dangerous if this is the case. Most people have dark brown to black hair. Very few people have lighter blonde or white hair, still fewer have red hair (red in the normal sense, not in the ‘my hair’s on fire’ sense)
Wairudo:
Meaning wild, wairudo are mythical creatures that take the form of humans. Their physical appearances vary, but many bear resemblance to their animal counterparts. For example, a wairudo dog may look like a rather unkept human with pointy teeth, a fish may have gills and function poorly on land, and a bird might have wings instead of arms or an oddly shaped nose/mouth. They are not the same thing as anthro people- they look human for the most part, with the exception of tiny quirks, and they are also different from the typical ‘cute catgirl with ears and a tail.’ If it were a cat, the person would have creepy eyes, fangs and sharp nails, not an extra pair of ears or furry skin.
These people have the intelligence of a child, with animal instincts. This makes them dangerous. They aren’t stupid, they’re smarter than humans in many aspects, but also unconcerned with many aspects of human intelligence (relationships, education, jobs)
Many of these creatures serve a particular family, and have done so for generations. Some of the wilder ones resent this association. Wairudo live much longer than humans.
Changer:
A recently vanished race of demon-like people, Changers were renowned for years by their immense power to manipulate physical matter. Adorned with horns, black skin markings and blank eyes, they are initially frightening to look at, but can manipulate their physical appearance to better suit their environment (meaning the horns will go away and in their place marks will appear if they want to look human). Any other superficial changes rely on their powers. They can turn into water, trees, animals and the like, but still rely on the laws of matter conservation. Meaning, a fully grown changer doesn’t become just one mouse, it has to become a flock of them, and if one dies, they may piece back together missing a nut.
Unlike humans, changers have more unique coloring. Usually the hair and eyes are the same color (bright red hair = bright red eyes (without pupils or irises)
**See anti if you want to be one of these. Honemei is currently the only one whose existence is known to anyone (and even then, it’s just Ichiwa and Tatsumaru)
Geography:
**in the works, but there are only three places that are important right now:
Tsuchimei: A densely populated country with a diverse landscape, including immense fields (usually used for combat training) Dark forests (left alone for the most part) lakes, rocky expanses, mountains and hills. The capital city, Jinkojou, is the place where Ichiwa and Rihei are from. It brings to mind Morocco and Las Vegas mixed together- full of clay houses crammed together, lots of bright lights, open markets, laundry hanging at any given point of day and lots of people. It is a troubled city with lots of gang wars, drugs and other underhanded things going on. The entire country itself is on the brink of war with its neighbor. The Daimyo of the land is a very powerful man who seems to have a direct relation to our protagonists. MOAR on this later.
Hiatsobi: said to be a free land. Battles that take place there end quickly, and nobody really knows anything about the leader of the country. The entire place is said to be beautiful, surrounded by rocky cliffs, ocean and fields, and many people dream of escaping to there. Oddly enough, nobody who’s gone there has ever come back.
Suitsuki: known as the ‘white city,’ a beautiful, prosperous but highly religious island land, the capital (and pretty much only city) being Gekkani. This is where Tatsumaru is from, and his father is very influential thurr, but they have no actual ‘leader.’
Clothing:
People in this universe don’t run around in sailor uniforms. I’m sorry Baka (but you already know this.) XD Clothing is generally unique to each country. In Tsuchimei, for example, it is normal for people to have a long sleeve on the non-dominant arm and a glove on the dominant hand, but anywhere else that’s considered weird. People wear a combination between modern street clothes, traditional Asian wear, and sometimes things that look like they belong in a hooker’s wardrobe (cough Ichiwa and Tatsumaru cough) Colors are not generally bright for military types, basic greens, browns and blacks with only accents of color. Pants tend to be either very baggy or very tight to make movement easy (nothing stiff like jeans) and it is common for people to carry weapons, even civilians in some places. Patterns also help dictate where you’re from (Ink-spot cameo is very unique to the Shirokuro, everyone else wears normal cameo,) and certain families have symbols to show their status. Things like face-paint, jewelry or other quirks are up to your discretion.
Education:
education is taught at a basic level, and is usually biased in the favor of the country teaching it. Kids are taught to read and write, do simple math, and recite their country’s history. Civilians drop out or become scholars, the rest continue for military training. From there, they are split by rank for occupation. There are several jobs you can have within the military: basic soldier, recon soldier, higher ranking officers, border control, homeland security, special circumstances, interrogations, ect. That’s pretty much the way of life.
Powers:
About one in every ten has a power of some sort.
Elemental: Elemental is the most common, earth is the most common element. Everything is passed down genetically, but powers can skip many generations and surface in unexpected areas. Elemental powers are dominant and recessive if they’re incompatible (fire and water means fire wins or neither wins unless the fire parent had a recessive for water. We’re getting into that box thing now XD) But if they are compatible, weird things surface and can be refined through generations (Fire and earth, specific sand, generations of random sh*t and you get the Shirokuro glass power)
Examples of specific elemental abilities (just because you’re in that category doesn’t mean you have all of them)
Fire: fire, heat, light, air (air is controlled by heat, it is not its own element) ect
Earth: dirt, sand, crystal, plants, ect
Water: ice, ocean water (specific) fresh water, rain, other liquids () ect
Nonspecific: Shadow (only Karou), sound (low frequency means destructive waves, high frequency is high-pitched, irritating or hypnotic) Telekinisis (nonspecific control) and anything else that doesn’t fit into the other categories
Calling: callers have contact with the content dimension, where they can summon things they need in battle. Callers aren’t genetic- they are taught a very specific branch of magic. Most non-civies can do some degree of this. The content dimension is a void where thousands of things are stored.
Blinding: a fairly uncommon ability that surfaces in most countries every once in a while. People who can do this can cause a person to recede into their own mind and inflict damage on themselves. Blinding illusions are broken through logic. Basically, you talk to them and reason while ‘this can’t be happening’ and they poof away. Hopefully you haven’t chopped your arm off at this point.
**Ichiwa’s momma has this ability, she just never uses it. Hotaru is the only child that can’t do this.
Reversal: rather than having any specidic power, this dangerous ability allows you to seize hold of your enemy’s attack and redirect it. This is known to be the most rare ability- only one in a thousand is born with it.
Changing: You can only do this if you are a changer. No sh*t.
Any other questions? PM me for info! :3
